Borka and the Bears

"Sometimes, you eat the bear. And sometimes, well, he eats you. And sometimes a bunch of bears all ambush you at once and eat you, with some wild trollkin coming up behnind ordering 'em to do it. And sometimes, a crazy trollkin riding a bear attacks you and they both eat you, together."

Today we've got the two iterations of Borka Kegslayer, as well as the northkin bear handler unit. We though given Borka's stature he made sense as the warlock to represent the champions unit, and so decided to do him as an ogre instead of an orc.

Both of the Borkas use parts from the original Borka Kegslayer model. In addition to the Borka box, some additional bits were ordered from Privateer including an extra copy of his iconic mace. Neither uses Borka's body as its core though. Primal Borka is built on top of an old metal ogre tyrant model, making him rival some of the old metal warbeasts and warjacks for weight. To this was added an ogre head, upper arms and armor, along with Borka parts such as the runestone skirt, bombs and the mace.

The whole thing is stitched together with a quantity of putty, and some old paint I didn't bother to strip. The scenic base is Scibor. The keg carrier is just the original model with some goblin head swaps.

Epic Borka was a bit more involved. Instead of the bear from the official model, he's mounted on this one from Scibor, who has a bit of a Golden Compass vibe going on. The rider's body and saddle are from an ogre mournfang kit, again with the addition of Borka bits to finish. I sculpted a vest, fur collar and chainmail to cover the larger gaps in the torso created by this pose. The extra gauntlet is a copy cast from the other arm, which is originally from a runeshaper model.

Last up we have the northkin bear handler unit, consisting of the handler and two fighting bears. This is a great little unit, and the models are superb - beautiful sculpts, cleanly cast and easy to assemble. I did some light reposing with the bears, which explains the putty reconstruction you can see at some of the joints.

The handler is another orc-ification, just a head and hand swap. I wanted to preserve as much of the detail on the original model here as possible because it looks great. For fun we gave him a little goblin helper with matching axe and cloak, based on an old warhammer grot.
