We Three Brothers.. Always Fight Together!

A raging inferno isn't something you put inside you. It's already there! Sometimes you just need someone to help you ignite it!

The pyre troll conversion is another one from the archives.  Along with the Mauler, Axer and Impaler, it was one of the first builds I did since, at the time (in the second half of Warmachine mk2) it was a completely indispensable piece for trollbloods.  Shortly thereafter I added the Swamp Troll and the brand-new Night Troll to the battlegroup selections as well.

C'mon Baby, Light My Pyre

Looking back at the pyre troll now, the sculpting is a bit rough, but it's nonetheless a great model.  It benefits immensely, of course, from the dynamic pose of the sculpt on which it's based, the 2012 plastic pyre troll.  My main alteration was to add more flames to the model.  The head got the usual full makeover, in this case using flame bits sawed off the original metal pyre troll among other things.

The back crest was created using one of those flaming swords from the WHFB Empire Wizard box, sawed in to three parts and glued along the length of the spine.  I believe I also altered the angle of the arms, although it's a little hard to see in these photos.

Tentacular Troll Tongue Transplant

I'm going to talk about the Swamp and Night Troll together, because one conversion inspired the other.  The swamp troll model never did much for me, so it wasn't on my short list during the planning phases of the project.  The big popeye fists and featureless tongue felt like they lacked something.  But that all changed with the release of the Night Troll - a model that was not only incredibly cool looking, but came with a grotesquely long tongue bit.  Even better, the night troll itself didn't have any rules attached to the tongue, so we could freely steal it for use on the swamp troll.

[insert KISS lyrics here]

The swamp troll received some further additions as well:  a gribbly pair of arms from the GW River Trolls, and a nose and pair of ears taken from a fantastically disproportioned goblin.  The night troll, meanwhile, got a smaller replacement tongue fashioned from greenstuff.  Those who've read the older entries may also recall it donated its gigantic night-troll hands to the nearly-complete Mauler.

The replacement hands are another pair from warhammer river trolls.  At one point, I had these hands on the mauler conversion, but the fingers looked too thin there.  They fit perfectly here though, and I'm very happy with how the final build came together.
